Inspiring Children

A group of children from an elementary school in the UK, year 3, who were learning about rocks and stones, were inspired by my art and created their own version of colorful pebbles in oil pastels. What a wonderful job they did and what an honor to inspire young minds!

Art Students’ Replica of “Symbiosis”

Two art students from Lake Howell High School in Winter Park, Florida, participated in a local chalk art competition and reproduced my work “Symbiosis”. They did an amazing job and won best reproduction.

This is the second time students of art teacher Sandra Rivas-Cole used one of my images. When my art inspires young, talented people it makes it all worthwhile.

A special thank you to Ms. Rivas-Cole for introducing my art to her students and supporting them in their effort.

Published in Poets and Artists Magazine

I’m very honored to have my artwork “Social Network” included in the “Glorious Color” issue of Poets and Artists Magazine, published by Didi Menendez. This issue is curated by Lorena Kloosterboer who provides a thoughtful and insightful interpretation of each works of art.

Here's what Lorena writes: "Ester Roi is an Italian artist based in San Juan Capistrano, California, who creates flamboyant artwork using dry and wax-based media to depict river stones, pebbles, and flowers. Water and wetness play important roles in her compositions. Inspired by nature, she creatively integrates realistic imagery and abstraction with a superb flair for color and technical skill.

Roi's gorgeous piece, entitled Social Network, draws me because of its sheer color intensity, flowing lines, and dramatic visuals. The expressive color palette enhances the detailed realism of smooth wet rocks and flowing water. Both composition and title suggest harmonious interconnectedness, adding emphasis to the deeper meaning of this artwork."

My Largest Work in Progress

This is a progress photo of my 40” x 60” canvas in colored pencil, artist crayon/wax pastel and a little acrylic. I started this work several years ago but I had to put it aside for other projects. I was finally able to resume it recently. As you can see, I’ve completed a little less than 2/3.

This piece is definitely a challenge due to its size and complexity. I concentrate on one pebble at the time and try not to look at how much is left to do, not an easy task. A friend of mine posted this comment on Facebook: “Oh wow! Now that's what I call dedication!” My reply was: “Dedication and insanity, I need them both.”

Size: 40" x 60"
Medium: Prismacolor and Luminance colored pencil, Neocolor artist crayon/wax pastel and a little acrylic
Tools: tortillions, paper stumps, color shapers
Surface: extra fine texture canvas primed with Art Spectrum Colourfix primer
