Into the Light

Wax Based Media - 16" x 20" Description On a cool spring day, searching for new ways to look at the world, I immersed a poppy in a glass bowl filled with water. I was surprised to see the poppy turning upside down as it ascended in a slow deliberate dance toward the light. Its petals shimmered in the morning sun, at times translucent and almost transparent, while little pink air bubbles flitted like fireflies across them. As the blue of sky turned pinks into purples, time stood still, and I felt as if I had just witnessed the ephemeral journey of a soul.
Read what the juror, Alyona Nickelsen, says about the winning piece: "This is a hymn of life, light and color; the ode to creators and creations; the glory of the instant and the triumph of eternity. This work has everything. A fresh idea that uses spectacular effects to achieve a dynamic and moving composition. Brilliant colors culminate in a superbly executed and masterful piece. Bravo Ester!"
