7th Graders Use My Art For a Project

This is a reproduction of my work “Social Network” by a class of 7th graders studying color theory. They each received a section to enlarge and copy with paint or colored pencils. Then the teacher put all the squares together.

This is the kind of copying that warms my heart and makes me proud to be an artist. I think they did an amazing job!

Included in a New Book by Katherine Tyrrell

Renowned UK artist and blogger, Katherine Tyrrell, has a book coming out on January 1st, 2015. It comes in three different versions for the UK, USA and Asia, with three different publishers, three different titles and three different covers. However, everything inside is the same, including my contribution (!). Yes, I'm one of the artists included in the book.

The USA version, titled "Drawing 365", is now available for pre-order from Amazon  and North Light Books.

Inspiring Children

A group of children from an elementary school in the UK, who were learning about rivers, decided to do a project inspired by my artwork. I'm so thrilled that my art connects with people of all ages, especially children!

“Colored Pencils with Denise Howard” Video

Amazing Chalk Replica of “Impasse”

In my artist life I've been blessed with many special moments but this one I will treasure forever.

Sandra Rivas-Cole is an art teacher from Lake Howell High School in Winter Park, Florida. She found my artwork on Colossal and introduced it to her students. A few of them insisted on using one of my images for an upcoming chalk art festival and together decided to use my piece "Impasse".

The chalk art festival was at downtown Disney in Orlando, in conjunction with the Festival of the Masters Art Show. Four of Ms. Rivas-Cole's students worked very hard and skillfully to make an accurate replica of "Impasse". They received numerous compliments from visitors and seasoned festival artists as well.

I think these four amazing young students, Haver C., Riana S., Jamilette D., and Meghan S., did a magnificent job. I'm very moved, honored and delighted by their stunning rendition.

Knowing that my art inspires young, talented people, makes it all worthwhile.

A special thank you to Ms. Rivas-Cole for introducing my art to her students and supporting them in their effort.

Arlene Steinberg and the Icarus Board

Amazing colored pencil artist and friend, Arlene Steinberg, is featured in the May 2013 issue of The Artist's Magazine along with other talented artists in the article "Colored Pencil Comes of Age" by Maureen Bloomfield.

Bloomfield says: "One reason Steinberg's color is so intense and saturated is that she works on an Icarus Art drawing board, a portable board that has warm and cool areas; the board is placed under the paper, and the wax reacts to the heated part of the surface" (54).

For a preview of this article visit the Artist's Magazine's blog post "Some Like it Hot/Colored Pencil Art Sizzles".

Below is one example of Arlene's brilliant artwork titled "Hibiscus Under Glass".
