“Opus Magnum” WIP

This is a progress photo of my "Opus Magnum", a 40”x 60” canvas. The section I completed is a little less than 1/4th of the whole canvas. I'm working on it between other smaller projects because I don't have a deadline.

This piece is definitely a challenge for me due to its size and complexity but I'm enjoying the process very much.

Medium: Prismacolor and Luminance colored pencils, Neocolor artist crayons
Tools: tortillions, paper stumps, color shapers
Surface: extra fine texture canvas primed with Art Spectrum Colourfix primer
Technique: Icarus Painting Board

I made some progress on my "Opus magnum", a 40”x 60” canvas. The section I completed is about 10% of the whole canvas (10" x 24").

I plan to work on it a couple of times a week, in between other projects. This is my first tribute to Montana's Glacier National Park, specifically the McDonald Creek.

Upcoming Demonstration

Saturday, February 14, I will give a demonstration during the San Diego CPSA District Chapter meeting (10:00 am - 12pm) at the Serra Mesa- Kearny Mesa Library, 9005 Aero Drive, San Diego.

The title is: Forget all the rules you learned and be a colored pencil rebel!

I will introduce the latest addition to the Icarus board family, The Icarus Painting Board, and will highlight its innovative design and applications. Prepare to let go of preconceptions about colored pencil and learn that fear has no room in the life of a creative artist.

Everybody is welcome! If you're not a member of the Colored Pencil Society, this will be a great opportunity to meet a dedicated group of artists who share a passion for colored pencil. I hope to see you there!
